Udaya Wewelwala is a senior consultant, researcher and lead trainer with over 19 years of experience in Development Finance including microfinance.
He has conducted researches, studies and assessments locally and internationally for deferent development agencies including financial service provides such as World Bank, ADB, ILO, AusAid, GIZ, UNOPS, UNDP, USAID, Government Ministries, Commercial Banks, NBFIs, MFIs, INGOs, NGOs etc. Udaya has contributed substantially to the growth of the microfinance industry in Sri Lanka, including works to set up LOLC microcredit operations in Sri Lanka which is operating throughout the Sri Lanka and later expanded to overseas.
He was the Principle Consultant to set up CLC microfinance operation which is currently operating all districts in the country.
He is currently consulting to 10 leading Banks under the ADB Wi-Fi as the National Gender Finance Expert to improve financial services to women.
He is currently contributing to expand digital finance services in Sri Lanka as a consultant to IFC.
He was a Director in Lanka Microfinance Association in 2017 to 2018 and 2018 to 2019 periods and Director of Graamodha Foundation.
He is an accredited trainer certified by ILO-SIYB, Frankfurt School of Finance & Management, CGAP and the Asian Development Banking Institute.
